NYC Jewelry Lab Studio and Gallery
NYC Jewelry Lab is the private studio and gallery of Argentinian artist and master metalsmith Carolina Iwanow.
With over 35 years of experience, Carolina began her journey in jewelry at the age of 19 and has been devoted to teaching The Art of Metalsmithing since 1998. In 2015, she founded NYC Jewelry Lab in New York City, creating a space where craftsmanship, creativity, mentoring and tradition come together.
NYC Jewelry Lab is proud to be a green jewelry studio, rooted in a deep commitment to safety and conscious making. We do not work with hazardous acids and place strong emphasis on teaching responsible, professional studio practices.
Each class and workshop takes place in a fully equipped, professional jewelry studio. Students have access to all necessary tools, allowing them to focus entirely on learning, designing, and creating—this means that students DONT NEED TO BRING TOOLS because we have everything they need in order to craft.
For The Art of Metalsmithing classes, materials are provided for the first class. From the second class onward, students bring their own materials, guided by a curated list of suppliers and recommendations provided after the initial session.
Workshop materials vary depending on the specific experience and are outlined according to each workshop’s structure.
Learn the amazing Art of Metalsmithing at NYC Jewelry Lab by Carolina Iwanow at NYC Jewelry Lab. Classes are super personalized and hands on. Students will become familiar with the jewelry studio, tools and equipment.
They will learn how to design jewelry, how to think and see as a jeweler, how to saw, file, form, join, solder, wax carving, they will learn about gemstones, how to make many different gemstone settings, chain making, granulation, reticulation, forging, anticlastic, stone inlaid, riveting, hinges & cold connections, findings, burnishing, hand stamp, chasing and reppousse, embossing, cold enamel, ring sizing, super high end finishings, matt finishing, sanding, forming, folding, forging, marriage of metals, textile techniques on metal, polishing, texturing, manufacturing tricks and considerations, how to recycle, etc, etc, etc…all this techniques will be practiced in class. Students will learn jewelry design and basic jewelry design drawings and how to develop concepts for creating jewelry pieces, they will be encouraged to create, experience, play and explore to accomplish their own jewelry designs and eventually developing their own jewelry collections.
The in person classes include all the tools needed. Jewelry Materials will be provide for the first class and they will need their own materials from the second class onwards. An email will be sent with a full list of materials options, jewelry suppliers and miscellaneous information related to the jewelry universe.
Once you book the classes or a gift card you will receive an email with how the classes work, current classes available and Rescheduling Policy. You will have 6 months to take your classes, for this you will need to choose a Class day and a time and stick with it. Once you start taking your classes you will have to take them in consecutive weeks.
If you book 5 classes you will have to take them in 5 consecutive weeks. If you book 7 classes you will have to take them in 7 consecutive weeks. If you book 10 classes you will have to take them in 10 consecutive weeks. The more classes you book the more you will learn this wonderful craft.

The in person group classes last 3 hours.
