 Art Statement

This chest plate is built of crocheted elements, cast in silver & bronze. It was inspired by the ornate crocheted table coverings produced by my Bosnian grandmother – an exquisite domestic art in the former Yugoslavia.  I became enamored by them when I “inherited” a group that were accidentally washed with a red sweater, dyeing them a bubblegum pink only appropriate for decorating a child’s room.  An intimate practice, crocheted textiles are gifted across the globe to loved ones, and when assembled into comforting blankets are commonly referred to as granny squares..
